Name: I Dated My Best Friend Mom review
Rating: 7.0

The setup

Jake and his best friend Tyler are scrolling a dating app when Tyler's own mother pops up, and Tyler orders an immediate rejection. Jake claims he complied. He did not. Back at Tyler's house, where Jake is staying the night, Josie greets them warmly, Jake privately rates her even higher in person, and he spends the scene hoping Tyler never finds out. The episode runs on dread and a single lie, and it ends when Josie lets him know she saw the swipe and asks whether he likes the view.

Episode 2

Episode 2 is very short and very direct. Jake fumbles an answer, Tyler hollers for him from another room, and Josie announces a shower with a pointed remark about how dull it is solo. Jake invents a bathroom trip, has a moment of disbelief that this is really happening, and gets shushed. That is the whole episode: one friend nearby, one excuse and one very quick decision.

Who's who

Jake: the best friend who lied about one swipe and is now a guest in the consequences
Josie: Tyler's mom, unbothered by the app mix-up and quicker to act than either man
Tyler: the oblivious best friend, always calling from the next room at the wrong moment

Verdict: 7.0 out of 10

The dating-app swipe is a great modern hook, the kind of mistake anyone can picture making with a friend watching. Then the show seems to lose interest in its own setup. Josie never has a conversation with Jake so much as a series of invitations, and Tyler exists to shout from offstage. The free episodes are brisk to the point of rushing. If the premise tickles you, the paid rest might earn a look; if you wanted the comedy of the lie, most of it is spent.
