The setup
His girlfriend Hannah volunteered him to drive her stepsister back to campus, a six-hour trip, and the stepsister announces up front that his time now belongs to her. He spends the drive sneaking looks, she spends it mocking him for it, and Hannah keeps calling to make sure he is on his best behavior. When a storm hits the highway, Hannah herself insists they stop. The motel has one room left. The stepsister takes a shower, startles him at the door, and leaves the bathroom open as an invitation.
Episode 2
His protest about family loyalty lasts one line. She eyes the clean T-shirt he just changed into and asks to borrow it; refused, she threatens to spend the night shirtless, and his resolve dies halfway through a countdown. Then Hannah phones to check in. He promises her the stepsister is under control, is made to repeat it to her face, and hears a confession: she has wanted him since Hannah first introduced them. Hannah is still on the line.
Who's who
- The stepsister: Hannah's stepsister, bored by the road and entertained by his wandering eyes
- The boyfriend: a reluctant chauffeur whose attention keeps drifting from the highway to the passenger seat
- Hannah: the girlfriend checking in by phone, sweetly arranging the exact situation she should fear
Viewers who like the classic one-bed motel setup played quickly, with a girlfriend's phone calls supplying the guilt.
You want surprises: every beat here, from the storm to the single room, is the one you expect.
Verdict: 6.2 out of 10
Under a minute, and the opener uses every second: the ride, the storm, the room, the shower. The irony of Hannah personally ordering the motel stop is the sharpest touch. In episode 1 the stepsister does all the talking while he mutters, but episode 2 fixes some of that: the borrowed-shirt standoff gives him lines, and the phone call where his reassurance to Hannah gets turned back on him is genuinely wicked. Predictable shape, nastier execution, and a real reason to continue.
