The setup
It opens with a flash-forward: Piper Hollis telling a nervous employee that her husband does not matter tonight. Rewind to check-in. She and James arrive for their honeymoon at a property emptied out just for them, and he swears there will be zero distractions. Minutes later he is on an investor call that could run for hours. Piper, in voiceover, admits she married him for the money and sees no reason to sit around waiting. Her opening move is the oldest one available: sunscreen, and a patch of back she supposedly cannot reach.
Episode 2
The sunscreen scene plays out exactly as advertised. Piper compares the employee's technique to her husband's, to James's disadvantage, while the employee keeps trying to retreat to his duties. She drops the formal title, waves off the risk of being seen, and pulls him indoors for one supposedly brief moment. His big worry is losing his job. Hers is that James never gets off the phone, which she treats as a permission slip.
Who's who
- Piper Hollis: a newlywed who married for money and is shopping elsewhere for the rest
- The resort employee: polite, nervous, and mostly worried about keeping his job
- James Hollis: the groom, permanently glued to investor calls, a husband in name and ringtone
Viewers who like a straightforward gold-digger fantasy with a neglected bride, an absent husband, and a nervous man in the middle.
You want surprises: the sunscreen gambit is the most predictable move in the genre, and it plays out straight.
Verdict: 5.2 out of 10
There is a decent premise buried here: a bride who admits, minutes into her marriage, that she bought the wrong thing. The flash-forward is a smart bit of structure. After that, the free episodes coast. Piper gets one trait, James gets one prop (his phone), and the employee gets one fear. Nothing in the dialogue surprises, and the second episode mostly restates the first with less clothing. The paid rest would need a twist to justify itself, and these episodes give no sign of one.
