The setup

Mia asked her boyfriend to drive her stepmom home, and the snow had other plans. The road stays shut until morning, the phone lines are dead, and Ms. Dermot wastes no time getting him out of his soaked clothes and into a borrowed T-shirt. She offers him a drink; he asks for tea and thanks her twice, very formally. Then she makes room beside her on the couch. The episode ends with her teasing him about being afraid of a shared blanket, and him insisting, unconvincingly, that he is not.

Episode 2

Mia, it turns out, told her stepmom that he is too timid to make a first move, and Ms. Dermot treats that as a challenge he should disprove. He protests on family grounds while staring anyway. Every objection gets shorter. Then his phone rings and it is Mia calling, and her stepmom answers his panic with a reassurance about secrecy that sounds a lot like a dare.

Verdict: 5.4 out of 10

Short, tidy and predictable. Episode 1 runs under a minute and uses it efficiently: weather, wardrobe change, couch. The best idea arrives in Episode 2, when Mia's own complaint about her boyfriend becomes the stepmom's lever, which gives the temptation a mean twist. Otherwise the dialogue is functional and the boyfriend has the personality of a wet coat. Fine for fans of the setup, unlikely to convert anyone else.
