The setup

Every night the prince dreams of the same woman, and the dreams are anything but chaste. Then his father, the king, introduces his new bride, Queen Lysandra, and the face is the one from those nights. An oracle interrupts the introductions to warn that a snake has slipped into the king's bed and will cost the king his throne. Guards drag her away on his orders. Alone with the prince, Lysandra confesses the dreams are shared, and tells him the gods want him to claim his father's wife.

Episode 2

Episode 2 makes the taboo louder: in her dreams, he calls her mother. Lysandra explains that Aphrodite visited her and laid out her destiny, then leads him to the goddess's chamber. The oracle's warning turns out to be incomplete, and the missing part has the son claiming both queen and crown. The prince works out that she wed the king to get to him. Locked in by the gods, Lysandra proposes giving them the show they came for.

Who's who

Watch it if

Viewers who like stepmother taboo dressed in myth, with prophecies, goddesses and palace intrigue doing the persuading.

Give it a miss if

You find destiny a lazy excuse: here the gods practically notarize the affair.

Verdict: 6.6 out of 10

Fate is the alibi, and the show leans on it hard. Shared dreams, a muzzled oracle and a goddess with an agenda all exist to tell two people that their worst idea is divine instruction. It is campy and knows it, and the ancient-court setting gives the stepmother angle a fresh coat of paint. The dialogue is mostly exposition, which flattens the leads, but the prophecy's hidden half is a decent twist. The locked chamber is a strong place to stop.
