The setup

The queen has chosen, and the chosen one is a human who knows exactly how far out of rank this is. Veyra does not care. She demands her name be spoken, makes it an order, remarks that humans tend to break, then forbids this one from doing so. Outside the chamber, the court gossip is grim: the queen has a new lover, and none of the previous three ever turned up again. The episode closes on a scuffle and a desperate call to the queen.

Episode 2

Being the royal favorite has a public price. At court the queen looks through her human, a lover by night and furniture by day. Yet when a peasant lays a hand on him, Veyra threatens to burn that peasant's house down, family included. Behind closed doors she explains the arrangement: in public or private, he belongs to her, and the only difference is when she lets him feel it. Then she repeats her warning about the ones who broke.

Who's who

Watch it if

Fantasy fans who enjoy a dominant queen, a power imbalance played straight, and a hint of danger under every compliment.

Give it a miss if

You want warmth or equality in a pairing; Veyra treats affection like a property deed.

Verdict: 7.2 out of 10

The dialogue here is short and every line has teeth. Veyra's habit of turning tenderness into a threat is the whole show, and it works: the rumor about her vanished lovers hangs over every scene without the script overexplaining it. The court sequence in episode 2 is the best idea, a public humiliation that turns into a private claim. Production is sparse and there is a lot of silence. Still, the menace is real, and the paid episodes have an obvious question to answer.
