The setup
Owen Hale pays five hundred dollars for a single pill and decides it was money well spent, because it has given him a secret superpower: he can look straight through people. His landlady, Mrs. Alvarez, reminds him rent is owed by Friday; he answers with a grin and a compliment she does not understand. Then a woman from the trial catches up with him about a skipped follow-up. She is the exception to his new gift, and she seems to know it. Episode 1 stops on her calm certainty that his eyes do not work on her.
Episode 2
In the lab, the side effects show: Owen has seen inside his own skull, and his nose is bleeding. The gift is growing. The researcher shrugs and turns the test into a game, shedding one item of clothing for each hidden mark he locates on her. He finds a birthmark and a tattoo, both confirmed calmly. She wraps up and books him for the morning, until he spots a scar under the last layer and holds her to the rules.
Who's who
- Owen Hale: broke, reckless, and thrilled with a superpower bought in a single pill
- The researcher: the woman running his follow-ups, unflappable, and supposedly immune to his eyes
- Mrs. Alvarez: his landlady, chasing rent and blissfully unaware of what he sees
Viewers who want a sci-fi gimmick with their seduction and enjoy a cold, controlled woman setting the rules of the game.
You are squeamish about nosebleeds or want plain realism: this runs on a pill, a lab and a superpower.
Verdict: 6.7 out of 10
Finally, a premise with an engine. The pill gives every scene a reason to exist, and the nosebleeds hint at a price, which most shorts in this format would never bother to set up. The researcher's game in Episode 2 is the best idea here: part experiment, part striptease, entirely on her terms until Owen pulls a reversal. The worldbuilding is thin, but the paid episodes have real questions to answer.
