The setup

Jake agreed to watch his friend Tyler's place for the weekend, a favor that sounded simple until Tyler's mom, Vanessa, greeted him instead. Tyler was supposed to be around. He is not. In a house as hot as an oven, she asks Jake to do her back, and he is visibly shaking by the time he protests. Tyler calls to check in, Jake insists everything is normal, and a neighbor named Dana strolls through the open gate, sizes him up, and promises to keep their secret. Temporarily.

Episode 2

Episode 2 is a negotiation. Dana's price for silence: a turn with Jake. Vanessa objects that he is not a party favor, Dana suggests sharing, and the two women bicker over him like a disputed parking spot. Dana nearly wins the round with Vanessa watching, until Vanessa shuts the pool down and sends her off with a parting jab. Then the mood turns tender. Vanessa sets Tyler aside, asks for the door locked, and promises the teasing is over.

Who's who

Jake: a loyal friend with terrible luck and no poker face whatsoever
Vanessa: Tyler's mom, unhurried, confident, and openly bored with playing it safe
Dana: the neighbor, an opportunist who treats a secret like a coupon

Verdict: 6.3 out of 10

The best idea here is Dana. Without her, this would be the standard friend's-mom setup, done competently; with her, it becomes a turf war, and the sniping between the two women is livelier than anything either one says to Jake. He is a nervous prop, which is the point but also the limit. Episode 2 settles the rivalry too quickly and drifts into a soft finish. Still, the blackmail angle gives the paid episodes something besides the obvious to offer.
