The setup
Every time Jake passes a certain bedroom door, he looks in. The room belongs to Kenzie, his girlfriend's stepsister, and she finally calls him on it, noting he had plenty of time to turn away and has apparently done this half a dozen times already. Rather than complain, she offers him a better view. He stammers about family lines just as his girlfriend calls out that she is heading out. Kenzie pulls him into her room to hide. The girlfriend leaves, and Kenzie releases him with a warning that she is far from finished.
Episode 2
The departure gets replayed with more detail: the girlfriend has a late work dinner and will not be back until after midnight. Jake decides that counts as permission and goes looking for Kenzie, who was expecting him. Then the front door opens again. The girlfriend forgot her keys, starts searching the place for him, and finally asks Kenzie whether she has seen Jake. Kenzie's answer is an order to him not to stop.
Who's who
- Jake: a serial starer with a girlfriend, more reckless than he is smooth
- Kenzie: the girlfriend's stepsister, who keeps count, keeps calm and keeps him around
- The girlfriend: busy, trusting and forever leaving the house at the worst possible moment
Fans of close-call comedy, where the girlfriend keeps coming back through the door and the stepsister refuses to break stride.
You find stammering leads tiring: Jake spends most of Episode 1 failing to finish a sentence.
Verdict: 5.9 out of 10
Credit Kenzie's tally. Keeping count of his previous peeks gives the premise a smirk, and she plays the whole risk calmly while Jake panics. The forgotten keys in Episode 2 are a cheap trick, but an effective one, and the final line is a good closer. The show repeats its one move twice, though: girlfriend nearly walks in, Kenzie shrugs. Some variety would help the paid run.
