The setup
A man answering a room listing gets approved with alarming enthusiasm, and within seconds Mona has called in the other recent arrival, Darkangel, to inspect him. The two women appraise him like a new menu and swap jokes about a shared scandal: both were caught with Darkangel's stepbrother, which is how she ended up needing a room. Then a house rule surfaces. They do not share. He gathers, half amused and half alarmed, that he is expected to pick one, and the episode ends with both of them waiting.
Episode 2
By episode 2 the rivalry is a sabotage contest. Mona washes his car in a way that is mostly about being seen washing it, and her soaked shirt gets the sarcastic reception it deserves. Darkangel cuts in with an outfit emergency, Mona gets locked out, and the wardrobe plan quietly evaporates. By the end, dinner has turned into dessert and Mona is left with a flimsy excuse about takeout.
Who's who
- Mona: a housemate with zero subtlety and a very elaborate approach to car washing
- Darkangel: the other new arrival, faster, sneakier and happy to lock out the competition
- The new roommate: a polite man who keeps agreeing to everything while two women fight over him
Viewers who like comic rivalry more than drama, with two women competing in increasingly shameless ways for one bemused housemate.
You need a story with stakes: nothing here is at risk except Mona's pride and his car's paint job.
Verdict: 5.6 out of 10
Think sitcom, not thriller, and it works. The stepbrother joke in episode 1 is crude but funny, and episode 2 has the best gag of the pair: a deadpan aside about a shirt that soaks itself by pure accident. There is no tension to speak of, since nobody is hiding anything, but the rivalry gives each minute a clear skirmish. If that light, silly register suits you, the rest is an easy, cheerful watch.
