The setup
Cole's father and his stepsister's mother are newlyweds, away for a week, leaving Cole in charge of the house, a title he wears like a crown. She answers every remark with a fresh synonym for disgusting, yet she never stops looking, he notes, and her hands keep landing on him. When Linda phones from the trip, her daughter labels him unbearable while he insists she adores him. Accused of staring since the ceremony, she says he would need to be reborn before she warms to him, then retreats to her room wishing him gone.
Episode 2
Episode 2 follows her there. Cole declares her bedroom his jurisdiction, she proposes eviction as the first rule, and he counters with evidence: fresh makeup, which nobody wears to sleep. Linda calls again, and her daughter claims Cole is off in his own room while he stands a few feet away. The insults keep coming with less conviction, until she declares this changes nothing about how she feels and, in the same breath, admits she needs him to touch her.
Who's who
- Cole: the stepbrother left in charge, cocky, persistent and sure every insult is a compliment
- The stepsister: Linda's daughter, armed with insults and unable to keep her eyes to herself
- Linda: her mom and Cole's new stepmother, checking in by phone from the trip
Fans of enemies-to-lovers bickering who enjoy a heroine whose denials get weaker every time she repeats them.
You want banter with range: her vocabulary is a thesaurus entry for gross, and his comeback never changes.
Verdict: 6.9 out of 10
Familiar ground, covered with some energy. The stepsister has the livelier part, a running gag of denials undone by her own behavior, while Cole plays one note of smug certainty that lands half the time. Linda's calls are the smartest device, forcing a lie out loud while the truth stands in the room. The turn at the end of episode 2 is abrupt, yet it is the first honest thing either of them says. Worth a look if hate-flirting is your genre; the rest needs a second idea.
