The setup
Rory is away until Friday, so he asks his closest buddy, the one with a van, to move his newly divorced mother out of the family house. Amanda greets the helper as if surprised by how he turned out, then puts him to work sorting twenty years of belongings, including lingerie her ex never noticed. She asks him to shut his eyes and then look. A real estate agent interrupts with a showing scheduled in ten minutes and a pointed remark about his hands. Rory calls. The friend promises she is safe.
Episode 2
Day two is the bedroom, and the sale closes Friday. Amanda is pleased he came back, replays yesterday's sorting game and approves of his answer. The agent, Tamsin, sizes up the situation and offers her number with yet another remark about his hands, until Amanda accuses her of poaching. Alone again, Amanda drops the jokes: two decades without feeling wanted, and her son's instruction to look after her, turned into an order with a different meaning.
Who's who
- The friend: dependable, van-equipped and in way over his head with the moving job
- Amanda: Rory's mother, freshly divorced and treating the move as a long-overdue reinvention
- Rory: away until Friday, calling in to check on his mom at the worst moments
Viewers who like buddy's-mother taboo with domestic texture: boxes, a nosy agent and phone calls at the wrong second.
You want variety: two afternoons in one house, one errand and a joke about hands that never retires.
Verdict: 6.1 out of 10
The moving-day frame is a nice practical touch: there is a deadline, a house full of memories and an agent with buyers waiting downstairs. Amanda's sorting game with her old lingerie is the best beat, part sad, part sly. The hands gag is overworked, and episode 2 hands it to the agent too. What saves it is Amanda's turn from teasing to confession, twenty lonely years in one breath, followed by a demand that lands harder than the first episode's wink. A fair case for the paid run.
