The setup
Jake owes three months of rent, has no work and nothing in the bank, and an eviction notice gives him until Friday. His landlady, Vanessa, frames her visit as a talk about payment, then proposes an alternative arrangement that has nothing to do with cash. He agrees, a month of debt disappears, and he tells himself it is purely business. She books him for next week like a standing appointment. On his way out he meets Mia, her daughter, who works out the payment method in seconds and offers her silence for identical service.
Episode 2
Episode 2 makes Jake the most overbooked tenant in town. Mia lays out the new terms, threatens to tell her mother, and treats his panic as entertainment. Now two landladies collect from him, and each believes she has him exclusively. Vanessa wants more of his time and refuses to share; Mia pounces while her mother is one floor down, and closes the episode by promising to demonstrate what Vanessa has been receiving.
Who's who
- Jake: jobless, out of options and settling his debts in the least sustainable way possible
- Vanessa: the landlady, all business on the surface and quietly possessive about her tenant
- Mia: Vanessa's daughter, a gleeful blackmailer who negotiates like she has done this before
Viewers who like transactional taboo with a farce engine, where the plot is mostly a man juggling two women under one roof.
You want any emotional depth: the arrangement is purely financial, and nobody pretends otherwise.
Verdict: 6.3 out of 10
Efficient is the word. The first episode gets from eviction notice to blackmail in about seventy seconds, and the second turns it into a scheduling problem with mother and daughter on the same calendar. The tone is brisk and shameless, and Mia's taunting gives it some comic snap. Character work is thin; Jake is a vehicle for the premise. But the double booking can only get messier from here, which is a fair reason to keep paying rent.
