The setup
Legend says nobody leaves the drowned court alive, and our narrator, a thief after a sacred stone, understands why the second he sees its keeper. Caught red-handed by a goddess, he skips the groveling every previous intruder tried and offers a compliment instead, admitting he can hardly think while looking at her. She asks what he truly came to take; his answer is her. It is a reckless line and it works, sort of: rather than executing him on the spot, she announces that he will stay, as her property.
Episode 2
Being kept turns out to be a job with a strict supervisor. She puts him on his knees for lessons in obedience, and he answers every command with a cheeky quip. Then a messenger arrives with word from her fiancé, the goddess is also a princess with a betrothal, and the thief has to vanish or they both die. The episode closes on her terms: if he wants to keep breathing, he will have to earn it.
Who's who
- The thief: a mortal burglar with a quick mouth and no instinct for self-preservation
- The goddess: ruler of the drowned garden, imperious, amused, and quietly engaged to someone else
Fantasy fans who enjoy a captor and captive dynamic played for banter, with a mortal who flirts his way out of a death sentence.
You need your fantasy built out with lore and battles; this is two people trading lines in a garden.
Verdict: 6.6 out of 10
Strip away the mist and the mythology and this is a screwball pairing: a goddess who expects terror and a burglar who keeps offering flattery instead. That contrast carries both free episodes, and the secret engagement adds a smart second threat without crowding the room. The voiceover runs a touch purple and the stone is forgotten instantly, yet the banter has enough bite that the rest of the story feels worth a look, provided the leads stay this sharp.
