The setup

A first-time user straps on a headset and lands in a dream that comes with a menu. A guide reads off the options like a sommelier: a stern boss, a neighborly type, a friend's mother, a gamer, each with a one-line pitch. He notices the guide has no listing of her own, and she confirms she is off the menu. Naturally, he picks her. She refuses, reminds him exactly who controls this dream, and he is pulled out of the simulation, begging to go back.

Episode 2

He goes straight back in, hunting for her. A woman from the menu offers herself as a substitute and gets ignored. When the guide finally surfaces, the scene becomes a standoff over who has been watching whom. She notes that nobody skips the menu, he insists the listed women feel fake next to her, and she warns him he has no idea what she is. Her terms arrive anyway: one night, her rules, and he had better keep pace.

Verdict: 6.6 out of 10

Here is a premise with an actual idea in it: a man handed unlimited choice who wants the one option that says no. The menu sequence works as efficient satire of the whole genre, and the guide's flat refusals are funnier than any come-on. Episode 2 is mostly atmosphere, with long pauses between lines, but the exchange that closes it has crisp rhythm. The mystery of what she is gives the paid episodes a real reason to exist, which is more than most shorts manage.
