The setup

The assignment sounds harmless: his girlfriend wants her mother driven home, forty minutes door to door. From the passenger seat, Mom praises his manners, asks about his less polite side, and catches his eyes drifting to her neckline, which he blames on her choice of top. Kayla phones to ask whether her mother is boring him; Mom vouches for his listening skills. At the curb he admits the trip flew by. She offers to extend it. Then she mentions her car is at the mechanic all week and asks for a pickup tomorrow, Kayla kept out of it.

Episode 2

Six sharp, and she is already waiting at the curb by her office. She tells him to keep the engine running, then steers the talk to Kayla: always working, rarely around, not giving a man enough attention. A phone call announces another late night at work, which clears the evening. He finally asks about her husband. She calls the man irrelevant, provided the answer is yes, promises Kayla will never find out, and invites him in.

Who's who

Watch it if

Viewers who like the girlfriend's-mother taboo kept tight and confined to a car, where every glance away from the road counts.

Give it a miss if

You need a slow seduction: she makes her intentions plain before the first drive is even half over.

Verdict: 6.6 out of 10

Few shorts use their minutes this well. The car is a perfect stage: two people facing forward, nowhere to go, a girlfriend one phone call away. Two decent comebacks from him make this more duet than solo act, and the broken-down car is a clever device that turns a single favor into a recurring date. Episode 2 repeats the formula with a little less wit, leaning on a familiar pitch about her daughter's long hours. The front-door ending still makes the next stop hard to skip.
