My Neighbor's Husband Works Nights! review

The setup

Jake is new to the building and already the man people call when something leaks at night. Leaving one repair, he meets the couple next door. The husband introduces his wife, Simona, then asks Jake to watch over her, since he works nights and expects her to do something foolish. Simona takes the hint fast. She knocks that same night with a kitchen leak so bad she cannot sleep. He fixes it, she compliments his hands, and the episode ends on a long, impressed look.

Episode 2

Episode 2 waits for the husband to leave, then breaks something else. Simona calls Jake over in a panic: she was making tea when the shower turned on her. He finds the head has been deliberately loosened, which says plenty about the earlier emergencies. Both of them end up drenched. He points out that she is married and lives next door, and she agrees, then argues that they are already soaked anyway.

Who's who

• Jake: the new neighbor, good with leaks and slow to notice he is being played
• Simona: the wife next door, whose household disasters follow her husband's work schedule
• The husband: works nights, distrusts his wife, and picks the worst possible chaperone

Verdict: 5.9 out of 10

This is the plumber fantasy with the serial numbers filed off, and it never pretends otherwise. The husband's request to watch his wife is a decent spark, since it hands Jake permission and temptation at once. After that, the leaks do the talking. Simona has little to say beyond the next emergency, and Jake mostly fixes things. The loosened shower head is the one clever touch. Fans of the formula will want more; everyone else has seen this pipe burst before.
