Name: My Roommates Made a Bet review
Rating: 6.3

The setup

Jake replies to a listing with the lowest rent in town and skips the fine print. The listing promised relaxed housemates; it did not mention Sienna and Mia, who greet him with open delight and an accidental walk-in within minutes. Then he overhears them betting fifty dollars on who gets him into bed first, with the loser paying his rent. Being the prize stings for about four seconds. By the end of the episode he has decided to let them think they are running the game, while he quietly runs his own.

Episode 2

Episode 2 is the competition, round by round. Mia stops by to remind him she lives next door. Sienna counters with a pitch for more fun with her, plus a request to reach a high shelf. Each insists she never loses, and Jake enjoys being fought over a bit too much. One vows to end it tonight, the other cries foul, and Jake turns to find Sienna asking if he still thinks this is only a game.

Who's who

Jake: the new tenant, broke, outnumbered, and quietly running a counter-game of his own
Sienna: confident, hands-on, and certain the bet is already hers
Mia: the roommate next door, just as competitive and convinced Sienna plays dirty

Verdict: 6.3 out of 10

A sitcom setup with an adult rating, and it moves like one: ad, apartment, wager, counterplan, all before the first minute and a half is up. The idea that Jake heard the bet is a smart wrinkle, because it turns him from prize into player, though episode 2 forgets it and lets the women do all the work. Sienna and Mia blur together at times, both swearing they never lose. Still, the competition gives every scene a point, and the closing confrontation is a good reason to check the scoreboard.
